A
trip to Ocean City would not be complete without stopping to see
some of its attractions. The boardwalk, which spans five miles of beach, is the town's
biggest and most popular attraction, drawing in tourists from everywhere in the country.
The town's beaches are some of the nicest in the area, just make sure you skip the areas
being replenished because of storm damage. Although the boardwalk does have two amusement
piers, the rides there seem childish compared to the more daring Wildwood boardwalk. But
there's more to do in OC than walk the boards, so take a look around.
Ocean City Aquarium
1119 Asbury Ave. 398-2255
Featuring sharks, alligators, dangerous
predators, coral reef, and tropical exhibits.
Ocean City Municipal Golf Course
26th St. and Bay Ave.
A small nine hole course. A fun way to kill a
few hours on a nice day, although the small size of the course makes it a bit crowded. On
these holes, you rarely need more than a 5 iron.
The Ocean City Boardwalk
Begins at 23rd St., and stretches to 1st St.
The boardwalk is always a destination when
visiting OC. Two amusement piers adorn the boardwalk featuring rides that'll please a
younger audience, but leave the bigger kids wishing they were hanging out at Jilly's
Arcade. There's lots of mini-golf and ice cream. Don't forget the funnel cake!
Gillian's Wonderland Pier
6th St. on the Boardwalk 399-7082
The bigger of the two amusement piers on the
boardwalk. The Gillian family has been around a while, and has made this a fun pier to
visit with the kids. There's a myriad rides available for the little folks, and the bigger
rides are fun for those not expecting dazzling heights or break-neck speeds. Be sure to
ride the giant ferris wheel though, it's the biggest around!
Playland Park
10th St. on the Boardwalk 399-4751
Ocean City's other amusement pier. This park is
constantly expanding and adding newer rides. They feature the only upside roller coaster
on the boardwalk, just don't blink though or you'll miss the ride!
Gillian's Island
Plymouth Place and the Boardwalk 399-7082
The Gillian family expanded its offerings and
opened this waterpark a few blocks away from it's amusement pier. This is the boardwalk's
best attraction and has a lot of fun slides to ride. There's also a decent mini-golf
course thrown in the mix.
Asbury Avenue Shops
Asbury Avenue features an eclectic collection of
shops that provide a fun day of shopping. Some of the things offered are truly unique.
Ocean City Historical Museum
OC Community Center, 1735 Simpson Ave. 399-1801
The museum is a guide to OC's past and has some
interesting exhibits such as their Sindia exhibit, which was a boat that wrecked off OC's
coast.
Ocean City Music Pier
Moorlyn Ave. on the Boardwalk 525-9291
OC's most well-known historical location. The
Music Pier hosts a variety of shows throughout the year. Check out our event calendar for
show information.
The Beach!
Relax and enjoy the sun on one the many fine
beaches. The lower beaches around 6-10 are home to a lot of surfers and young folks. The
middle beaches are mobbed during the summer months, while the upper number tend to be a
haven for locals.
