Showboat located at Delaware Avenue
and the Boardwalk opened April 3,1987. It has a total of 755 rooms including 69 oceanfront
suites in the main 2S-story tower and a 17-story Orleans Tower.
The resort also features 97000
square feet of gaming space nine restaurants and snack bars; two lounges; approximately
45000 square feet of ballroom and meeting space; a shopping area health spa and swimming
pool and a 60-lane bowling center
Showboat's 346-seat Mardi Gras
Showroom accommodates a variety of entertainment and special events and guarantees
customers superb seats anywhere in the showroom. The New Orleans Square Bandstand hosts
free jazz band entertainment and piano players entertain guests with classic to
contemporary songs in the hotel lobby.
The world's greatest all-star
all-feline jazz band Fifi LaMue and The Mardi Gras Cats a $3.1 million blend of high tech
wizardry and creative magic perform free of charge every day on Showboat's Bourbon Street
Promenade. The seven computer driven audio animatronic characters move sing and talk as
they perform their repertoire of jazz blues and Dixieland. Showboat is the first Atlantic
City casino to employ audio animatronics as an entertainment feature.
Showboat Atlantic City has undergone
a massive multi-million dollar renovation program including all the public areas guest
rooms and suites that recreates the ambiance of turn-of-the- century old New Orleans.
Henry Conversano of California designed this program. Mr. Conversano, whos other
works include the spectacular Mirage in Las Vegas is recognized as the world's most
innovative designer of casino-hotels.
It took $4 million eight artists
from New York 100 local craftsmen and five months of exacting a detailed work to complete
this fabulous facelift.
With just one look at the murals you
immediately feel the rhythms and music of Bourbon Street. The murals are enhanced by
balconies and wrought iron railings like those that encircle many a French Quarter
building. High/lighting the street scenes are foliage lights and 25 lifelike mannequins in
Mardi Gras attire on the balconies.
